It's called the Pomodoro Technique and it's so simple. You set a (tomato timer...aka 'pomadoro' is tomato in Italian) or I-Phone or plain old kitchen timer for 25 minutes and get to work.
This is the one I use. Or this one....
You 're not allowed to get up once the timer is on, and it forces you to sit, focus and get work done. After a few minutes of fidgeting...I usually get find my groove and I'm on task. Hooray!
After your 25 minutes is up....you get 5 minutes of free time!! Yippee it's like recess for adults. Get up stretch, grab a drink, dance around the living room...whatever you like.
Since I've been using this method I find that once my timer goes off..I'm so into my work that I just hit it for another 25 minutes. The official Pomodoro Technique people recommend that once you've completed four Pomodoros that you take a longer break. I like these guys.
It was created in 1980's by Francesco Cirillo and their website pomodorotechnique.com is taught and used throughout the world. No they did not pay me to say that, I just love sharing things that help me get more done in a day. They believe that their method helps 'turn time into a valuable ally to accomplish what we want to do and chart continuous improvement in the way we do it.'
Here's to getting things checked off your 'to-do' list. For more information about this genius idea check out their website here. You can even get a t-shirt with a giant tomato on it...hey whatever works?!
How do you tackle your 'to-do' list? Have you heard about this method?
Wishing you all a happy, safe and productive week!
