Energy Drinks

What does health mean to you? Are you conscious of how you feel and motivated to take better care of yourself?

Good for you.  Me too.

The older I get, the more aware I am of my health and overall well being.

People ask me all the time, I need to eat better, how do you make this recipe? Or tell me that muffin was so easy to make.  Like anything, the more you do something, the easier it gets.  Recipes may seems scary, but try a few new ones, and you may discover some really wonderful new dishes.  Same thing with an exercise/healthy lifestyle routine.

My kitchen is always busy with recipes, dirty dishes, groceries, cooking, preparing and creating healthy food that tastes great.

It's a priority to me because I want to live my best life.  I realize that the food that I eat makes a difference in not only my health, but my state of mind and overall well being.

lunch: chickpea spinach salad, tea and a side of blue corn chips

With that being said, I always drink a ton of water all day long, but lately I've been craving something different.  Over vacation I slipped an old favorite back into my diet...(don't judge me) my old friend Diet Coke.  Yes, I know what you're thinking, no big deal, it's not like I was in a corner injecting heroine.  I was on vacation so I relaxed and enjoyed every bubbly, chemical sip of it with a big wedge of lemon.  AHHH! Brought me back to my college days.

However, now back from the land of toxic bliss...my mouth is craving more then water.  Gee...I wonder why?!!! I was craving some drinks that will give me energy and that are good for my body.

I decided to use up all this great herbal tea that I have in my pantry.  I made a big batch of Lemon Ginger Tea from Yogi Tea and added fresh lemon juice and fresh ginger.  I'll drink this tasty stuff hot or cold.  I usually have a batch of iced tea brewing in the fridge at all times.  As I've said before, Joe calls these jars my 'urine samples'.

The flavor is really great. The combination of tea, lemon and ginger go so nicely together, and have so many health benefits.

lemons: helps boost your immune system, contains vitamin C
lowers LDL cholesterol (the bad stuff)

ginger: promotes longevity and vitality, a powerful antioxidant
            vitamins E and B6, manganese
helps alleviate systems of gastrointestinal distress

This seems to be doing the trick as far as entertaining my mouth with something more flavorful than water.

Another healthy drink coming back into my life....GGS.  I've talked about this in other posts, but it's one of my favorites.  The 'Glowing Green Smoothie' by Kimberly Synder.  This drink is uber healthy and feels amazing in the morning.

Adding a huge helping of veggies and fruit into your am routine.  I make a huge batch and have it for two days ready to go.  I know I sound like a crazy woman, but you can feel all the raw fruits and vegetables running through your veins...it really gives you a burst of energy.

Thank you Erin, from The Grass Skirt Blog for telling me about this Goddess of the Green Drink.  Kimberly is my health hero.

And my last favorite drink of choice, water

I try to drink as many glasses as I can in a  day.  I always carry one with me and feel hydrated after each glass.  Try adding some cucumber or citrus fruit to give it a little more flavor.  Health benefits of water...the list could go on forever, but here are a few.

Water:  keeps you hydrated
transports nutrients and oxygen into cells
              protects our organs
              regulates body temperature
              detoxifies our entire body

Hope you try to incorporate a few more of these mocktails into your diet.  You're sure to notice the difference in your health and on your face.  Staying hydrated keeps your skin glowing.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy weekend.
Be well.
xo
