Goodbye Summer

Before September gets completely away from us, one more post about the end of summer, peaches and spending time with my sweet Cousin Susan.  Have you ever been peach picking? We didn't plan on peaches, but that's all this farm had ready...so it was our only choice.

We intended to go blueberry picking, but we missed them by days...wahh..so peaches it was.

I love peaches, so that was fine with me.  I usually slice them in half, remove the pit, grill them and drizzle honey, cinnamon and toasted almonds over the top.  It's one of my all time favorite summer desserts! SO sweet and delicious!

Susan is always game for a little 'out of town' field trip, which we try and do often, since she has the summer off as a teacher.

Here she is pretending to like peaches.  She actually hates them...can you believe that??
Crazy, right?!!
But she does like frozen yogurt.

Another summer favorite...We almost always make time for frozen yogurt treats.  Mine was a combo of chocolate and carrot cake..delicious.  They only had large cups...can you see it in there? It was a perfect little serving. Susan had chocolate with a touch of whip cream, and as she added it she said, 'because it's almost my last day of summer, I'm adding whip cream!' Cute Susan...you're too funny and that's allowed.

We tried out a new place in town, Love & Yogurt.  It is very clean and had a ton of topping selections.  I could have poured a huge helping of sugary peanut butter sauce on top of mine, but I practiced self restraint.

Another summertime adventure Susan and I shared, we did a little kayaking on the Hudson River.  Hoboken offers free lessons throughout the summer, so we hopped right in.  We had more fun trying to get the perfect picture, not really steering and ending up going a little too far out.

They had to call us back in..here's our attempt to take another photo, but ended up switching it to video mode, from my iphone by accident.  I promise better videos to come, but I do get a kick out of listening to both of us (two grown adults) struggling to change it back with wet hands while floating on the Hudson River.  We ended up off the boat with wet pants...still undecided if it was from laughing too much or just from the river.  Maybe a little bit of both.

I've been blessed with lots of fun cousins, however I'm so lucky to have Susan here in town to hang out with and play on a sunny, summer afternoon.  She started out as my cousin/roommate on Willow Avenue back in the day, and continues to be such a huge source of support, a great friend and sister cousin in my life.

Susan...you're the best!  Wishing you a wonderful school year with all those little kindergartners.  They are lucky to have you and so am I.

What are you treating yourself to today? What's your favorite summertime fruit? Do you have a friend/family member that you enjoy hanging out with?
Happy Weekend!
