Signals

My body is telling me to slow down.  I am in pain.

But my head and heart are not happy about it.  About a month ago I ran in a 5K and around the third mile my hip started to ache.  Ache so much that I had to stop running and walk in the rest of the way.

I felt defeated.

I've never walked in a 5K...I thought to myself, what kind of nonsense is this?

However, I listened to my body and stopped running.  Walked in gracefully with my head high, but my mind racing.  What's going on? Why does this hurt so bad? How can your body go from feeling fine one minute, to aching the next.  Ouch...this sucks.

The next few days it was extremely stiff.  Getting up from sitting and walking around hurt.  I gave it time to rest, iced it, foam rolled (in weird positions) and stretched.

It got a little better...but not quite 100%.  Last week I knew if it was still hurting, it was time to get it checked out.  The pain is telling me something.

So I see the doctor this week.  I'm sure I'll need a test of two, but we'll see.

It's gone on long enough that now I want some answers.  I'm so not a 'go see the doctor' person, but I think this needs medical attention.  You know you're getting paranoid when you start googling 'left hip pain'!

Wish me luck...today's health lesson: Listen to your body, pay attention to it's signals and take care of yourself.  Maybe eat some apples.

I'm taking my own advice.

Have a gentle week everyone.  Be well.  xo

  1. Oh no! Glad you are going to the doctor, and sending you lots of healing thoughts! It's so true how suddenly our bodies can change gear. For me, I usually find that the issue is sudden, but I can figure out the long-term stuff that led up to it...indulging a little too much, pushing a little too hard...stuff like that.

    Feel better!
